Curriculum Matters

The DCSF-funded Licence to Cook (L2C) programme was introduced into all maintained secondary schools in England in September 2008. At the same time, the revised secondary National Curriculum came into force. Both the L2C programme and the revised programme of study for food technology broadly focus on the development of students' knowledge and skills in: practical cooking; hygiene and safety; nutrition and consumer issues. They are both based on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) food competences. In the majority of schools it will be up to food teachers to determine how best to integrate the L2C and the new secondary food technology programme of study into one KS3 curriculum. (In a minority of schools, without food facilities or specialist teacher, alternative arrangements will have to be made). From 2011 cooking will become a compulsory part of the KS3 food technology curriculum in all schools (England).

These FoodForum OK2COOK resources have been developed by Ali Farrell to support teachers in curriculum planning and delivery at KS3. They comprise a Scheme of Work for KS3, a number of Units of Work with support materials plus supporting recipes accessed from the gallery below.
