Food in Schools
What?

Food education has become a national priority, the aim of the Food in Schools programme is to develop food and nutrition education within our schools.

Food in Schools Accredited Trainers work closely with the National Healthy Schools Standard and Healthy Schools Co-ordinators, delivering vital training to primary schools. Many secondary schools have outreach programmes with their local primary schools of which this is seen to be a part.

How does the programme work?
Usually a qualified and experienced secondary food teacher is nominated to become a trainer. Their school makes a commitment to the programme ensuring that the trainer has sufficient release time and support. They attend a DCSF funded course to become a trainer full training is given on how to plan and deliver an effective course for primary teachers.

A food teacher arranges training a minimum fo 10 local primary schools and support is provided to plan the training. The food teacher supports the local primary schools after the training. The training plans and training are monitored and Accredited Trainer status is given.
